Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno "Carlos Mérida"

The Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno " Carlos Mérida " is a National Museum of Modern Art in Guatemala City, which bears the name suffix after the Guatemalan artist Carlos Mérida.

History

The history of the museum goes back to the opened on 10 November 1934, and by the governmental agreement of January 15, 1935 Museo Nacional de Historia y recognized Bellas Artes (Spanish for National Museum of History and Fine Arts ) that was located in the old Templo del Calvario, which was destroyed in 1947.

During the celebration of the national festival in 1953, the idea of reconstruction emerged. Intended was a former building of the Policía Nacional Civil. On October 16, 1975, gave rise to the present museum.
