History

The industrial building with Art Nouveau jewelry is originally from Germany. He was in 1902 on behalf of Gutehoffnungshütte in Oberhausen and the Deutz gas engine factory (later part of Klöckner- Humboldt - Deutz- works ) according to plans by the Berlin architect Bruno Möhring and Chief Designer of Gutehoffnungshütte, Reinhold Krohn ( bridge department in Oberhausen- Sterkrade ), as an exhibition hall been built for the Rheinisch- Westfälische industrial and commercial exhibition in Dusseldorf - Golzheim. The hall was a direct model for the famous, also designed by Möhring Art Nouveau machine hall Zeche Zollern II / IV in Dortmund- Bövinghausen. Since it was clear from the outset that the hall would not remain permanently in Dusseldorf, it was constructed completely removable by means of screw.

Museum Mexico

The larger main part was acquired by the Mexican company José Landeros y Cos in cooperation with the Compañía Mexicana de Exposicià Permanente, shipped to Mexico and built from 1903 to 1905 near the train station Buena Vista again. There he served from 1909 as a national museum of natural history of Mexico, showed dinosaur and more. 1960 resulted in severe damage to the collection for the museum closes. Starting in 1973, the hall passed to the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM), which re-opened the building after renovation and remodeling on 25 November 1975 as a center for young, avant-garde and experimental art (visual arts, theater and music). The building was again renovated and rebuilt from 2006 to 2010 after plans by the Argentine architect Enrique Norton. All later additions were removed thereby, built over several floors leading a detached ramp inside.

Möhring Hall Cologne

The elements of the smaller part came after the show first forgotten, the hall was considered lost. At the beginning of the 21st century, the hall was re-discovered in two parts. The grand pianos had been spent Deutz to Cologne -Deutz, on the site of the gas engine factory and rebuilt in simplified forms as a core shop ( Hall 17, so-called " Möhring Hall" ).
