Museum of Islamic Art, Doha

The Museum of Islamic Art (English: Doha Museum of Islamic Art ) is an art museum in Qatar and is one of the most important museums of Islamic art in the Arabian Peninsula. The museum was designed by architect IM Pei chinesischstämmingen and opened in November 2008.

Location

The museum is located in Doha, capital of Qatar Arab Emirates, built on an artificial island in the Westbay the port. The access from the old town about a kilometer away is via a palm-shaded promenade and laterally flanking parks.

Description

The Museum is regarded as the last masterpiece of the 91 -year-old star architects Pei, who completed a six-month study tour of Arab architectural forms for this purpose. The building complex has an area of 260,000 square meters and is home to significant portions of the extensive art collection of the emirs of Qatar. It consists of ceramics, textiles, historical artifacts and weapons, as well as books and documents. The origin of the valuable works of art includes the entire Arab world of the Middle Ages from Spain in the west to India and Central Asia.
