Museum of Praga

The Museum of Warsaw - Praga (Polish: Muzeum Warszawskiej Pragi ) is so far the only museum in Warsaw on the Vistula page. It is dedicated to the history of the Warsaw Praga district. History

In 2006, the Warsaw City Council decided to establish a museum on the history of Praga. Future Museum seat

Three built together historic building on the main road Targowa and a backyard with a corresponding development in the future will serve as the seat of the museum. The location and the building itself are closely connected with the history of the district. The row of houses on the Targowa consists ( from north to south ) from the Krzyżanowski - building, the oldest brick house of the area from the 18th century, the middle Sokolowski House of 1873 and the Rothblith - house, built in the years 1829-1830 been. The basement of the two southern buildings are older, they also come about by the end of the 18th century. When at the beginning of the 20th century the opposite Ulica Kępna was extended beyond the Targowa addition, had a part of the Rothblith - house to be demolished.

Renovation and reconstruction

The row of houses is being gutted, completely renovated and the museum needs rebuilt accordingly. The outbuilding in the yard is also renovated. To Kępna and the bazaar about a right angle, three-story concrete building is built. The reconstruction costs: 38 million zloty ( about 9 million euros ), and co-financed about one-third funded by the Regional Development Fund (OPI & E) of the European Union. The completion and opening of the new museum is planned for 2014.

Synagogue ( Ulica Targowa )

In the externally unobtrusive, historic outbuildings on the courtyard side is a former synagogue. The building probably dates from 1794, the Jewish prayer house was established here in 1869. As early as 1839 was in the building a Jewish elementary school. The interior of the synagogue dates from the years 1873 and 1874; two interiors contain fragments of 1996 exposed murals. The polychrome include zodiac signs of the Hebrew calendar, as well as scenes from Jewish life ( eg praying at the Wailing Wall and the grave of Rachel in Bethlehem ).
