Museum St. Ingbert

The Museum St. Ingbert was a German art museum in St. Ingbert.

Genesis

It was designed by the museum director Georg W. Költzsch (1938-2005) ( Folkwang Museum Essen and Saarland Saarbrücken museum ) built in the converted according to museum viewpoints rooms of the former district office from 1987 to 1989. The museum included a total of over 1000 sq meters on four floors.

The museum's centerpiece was the constant Albert Weisgerber collection, which showed about 70 oil paintings, numerous illustrations and applied art of the artist over 400 square meters of exhibition space. At the two other levels were rooms, fully air-conditioned, in part, for temporary exhibitions available, in which about four times a year internationally renowned artists were shown.

In recent years, inter alia, Max Ernst ( Graphic Collection Lufthansa ), Alfred Hrdlicka, Gottfried Helnwein, Jim missile, Linda McCartney or collection Theodor Ahren mountain were represented. For several years, special emphasis was placed on the presentation of internationally renowned photographers. In a corner buttress, which connects the two wings of the L- shaped building, an interesting heritage museum was housed. It presented a number of rare exhibits ( crafts, hand tools ) for industrial history of the city of St. Ingbert whose prosperous economy based on industrial pillars of coal, iron and glass. In this collection were also a number of works of art, including Weisgerber painting to see with designs from the historic St. Ingberter heavy industry.

The museum was closed to the proposal from the management point with the City Council resolution in July 2007 with the aim to settle a state authority with about 100 employees. This measure should bring additional purchasing power in the city. The building ( " Former District Office " ) fell to the owner, the Saar Pfalz-Kreis back. Following a decision of the district authorities, the museum was built and leased to meet back the Saarland.

That are held by the Foundation valuable works of art Weisgerber (100 exhibits) were temporarily housed in the old buildings of a former printing.

Museum relocation

Administration and City Council plan to build a new museum in the building of the former " cotton mill " which is privately owned. According to the management will be purchased with the help of a committed Landeszuschuses in the amount of 3 million euros a floor of the cotton mill and converted into a cultural center with a museum. In 2007, a plan was published by the City Council, after which the new museum should be opened in 2009. End of 2008, the opening date was given as the spring of 2010 from the same place. Meanwhile, the supposed opening date has been moved to the end of 2011 by the City Council. Was again shifted now to start construction on the fall of 2012.

Albert Weisgerber Foundation

The Albert Weisgerber Foundation is an unincorporated community foundation under civil law in St. Ingbert. She was from the city of St. Ingbert and set the Saar Pfalz-Kreis in 1992 and was awarded the Museum St. Ingbert; now the Saar Pfalz-Kreis is excreted as a carrier of the Foundation. The purpose and aim of the Foundation is the promotion of art and culture, in particular the preservation, maintenance, enforcement and mediation of art Albert Weisgerber in statewide and national consciousness. Furthermore, it provided the basis for the ongoing funding of the museum St. Ingbert. At present ( end of 2009 ) is not known whether the foundation, possibly without the Saar Pfalz-Kreis, after the dissolution of the museum still exists.
