Mushing

Musher is the technical term for the person who directs a dog sled team. He is on the slide and distracts his team alone caused by commands that need to be implemented by the lead dog.

Musher is also called those who follow the hounds on cross country skis while they are connected by a rope to a sled. One of the most famous musher Leonhard Seppala was, who took part to save the inhabitants of the town of Nome in Alaska before a diphtheria epidemic (see diphtheria epidemic in Nome ) 1925 a bailout.

In addition, the designation musher is used in reference to the dog sled even with the dog cart ( Dogcart ).

Whether the term comes from the French word marcher ( march ) or from the Greenland has not been clarified so far.
