Music of the Heart is the name of autobiographical feature film about Roberta Guaspari.
This film version of Wes Craven is based on the documentary " Small Wonders " from 1996, which was nominated for an Academy Award.
Action
After her divorce, the violin teacher Roberta tries to earn their livelihood. It is ( Angela Bassett ) recommended by her childhood friend Brian a school principal in East Harlem as a music teacher.
This point, however, it is not until after a few efforts, and because she brings 50 violins. Despite some skepticism from teachers, parents and children, her " East Harlem Violin Program" is fast becoming an important device.
After ten years of the program threatened with closure because public funds are deleted.
Roberta decides for continuing to fight and is mainly determined by the photographer Dorothea van stapling support, the wife of the famous violinist Arnold Steinhardt, which in turn can attract colleagues such as Isaac Stern and Itzhak Perlman for a charity event.

Awards
Meryl Streep as Best Actress, as well as Diane Warren for the song Music Of My Heart was nominated for an Oscar in 2000. Meryl Streep was also nominated in 2000 for a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. Diane Warren in 2000 was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Background
The charity event was actually filmed at Carnegie Hall with the artists of that time. But there were only 72 hours. At the filming of many children took part from Robertas program. On the last day of shooting, the crew visited by Rudy Crew, the school chancellor of New York, who agreed to support Robertas program again received. From 1991 to 1998, the program had been able to survive only thanks to private donations. Meanwhile, public support was introduced by the education authorities again.
Actually Madonna should play the part of Roberta, however, said this from because of differences with Wes Craven. Although Meryl Streep could not play the violin, and she said to exra had learned to play violin for the film in no time.
