Musical cue

A random note in the music notation is a note that appears in an advertised voice, but generally should not be performed by this voice, but is intended for guidance only - for example, to prepare after a long break a commitment. The cues are displayed smaller than normal, and provided with the name of the exporting voice.

For variable arrangements the cue notes are to be played when the instruments in question are missing. So important points of the second fan vote may be specified in cue notes in a first fan vote to make them run in this case.

In older printed music one note at the end of the line is called a random note, which corresponds to the first note on the new line, which should help ease the connection while reading. In printed neumes the last note of a liquescent is set as Stichnote.
