Muslimgauze

Muslimgauze ( Bryn civil Jones, born June 17, 1961 in Manchester, † January 14, 1999 ) was a British musician in the field of electronic music, who dedicated his work to support the " Arab cause " in the Middle East.

Life

He spoke in favor of Hamas and the PLO and took the view that Israel / Palestine is occupied by the Zionists. He himself never visited the Middle East, because he thought it was wrong to enter an occupied country as a tourist. The name Muslimgauze supposed to be a play on words, composed of Engl. " muslin " ( German: muslin ) and English. " gauze " ( German: gauze ) and of course Muslim. Despite the name of his music project emphasized Jones that he was not interested in religion.

He was an outspoken opponent of the use of computers and samplers in music and took his stuff always with purely analog equipment. Jones took yourself playing various Middle East common musical instruments, mainly percussion, and took voices and noises from the region of old tapes or radio broadcasts that were often repeated rhythmically. All of his recordings were primarily live and were subsequently edited and mixed. The result of this process often sounded loud and static, with sudden volume changes.

Muslimgauze has produced a wealth of albums. Every single one of them was named after a political fact or event or inspired by it. His albums have usually been published in editions of 200 to 1000. Due to the interest in his work, it always comes back to reissues or new compilations published.

He started to produce music in 1982, initially under the name Eg Oblique Graph. , To then protest against the occupation of Lebanon by Israel. Under this name he released three cassettes: Extended Play (1982 ), Piano Room (1982 ) and content ( 1983) as well as with triptych (1982 ) a 4 -track 7 "EP, with the piece of Studies of the red pope extent a curiosity contained, as here, a female person on German read out the text of a holiday letter that she wrote straight, while electronic sounds are heard in the background. He had received for seven albums so far no money, so he ran into financial difficulties.

In 1995, he produced six albums, fifteen 1996, 1997 and 1998, nine of sixteen. After his death, published the various labels, with whom he had worked together previously unpublished material and brought out of print albums out again, so that in 1999, 22 new or re-released albums appeared.

On Wednesday, December 30, 1998 Bryn Jones was hospitalized with an unknown illness in a hospital in Manchester. It turned out that he suffered from a rare fungal disease. The treatment was unsuccessful, the organ functions failed and he died on 14 January 1999.
