Population

History

The founding Musomas took place in the late 19th century by the German colonial government. From this time an old administrative building is present near the post office, where the police are now houses. (Note: photo ban)

Economy

Important nutritional and economic basis of the population of Musoma is fishing. So there are some fish factories in the city, which are Indian and European business people in possession. Agriculture is only for subsistence, ie to obtain their own livelihood. Many residents sell the fruits of their fields at small roadside stands.

For the local construction inhabitants grow from the rock of the granite rocks on the shore of Lake Victoria.

Tourism

Tourism plays - despite the proximity Musomas to Serengeti National Park - not a big role. Musoma is merely a stopover for travelers between Kenya and the Tanzanian city of Mwanza. Notable hotels are the Afrilux, Tembo Beach, Peninsula, and the Orange Tree.

Not far from Musoma is the birthplace of the ancient leaders Julius Nyerere, for which one has set up a museum.

Traffic

The best the city can be reached via the extensive bus network. Buses heading south to Mwanza, north to the Kenyan border, and in the east towards Arusha. In a bus heading east must be remembered that in addition to the ticket also transit fees for the national parks Serengeti and Ngorongoro are due. The bus station is in the center of the city.

Musoma has a ferry terminal and a landing strip for airplanes. Ferry and flight operations came to a virtual standstill. From the fish market go near Kawawa Street " Taxiboats " to the nearby villages and islands.
