Musson is a Belgian municipality in the district Virton the Luxembourg province in the French-speaking Wallonia.

Community Musson

The church today Musson was formed in the wake of the Belgian municipality reform 1 January 1977 from the two communities Musson and Mussy- la -Ville, came from the neighboring village of Bleid ( who was beaten to the new community Virton ) the district Signeulx.

The community today consists of the districts Baranzy (554 inhabitants), Gennevaux (50 inhabitants), Musson (1764 inhabitants), Mussy- la -Ville ( 1114 inhabitants), Signeulx ( 576 inhabitants) and Willancourt (274 inhabitants), is the municipal is the place Musson.

Geographical Location

In the north, bordering the town of Saint -Léger (Belgium ), on the east by Aubange, south to France and to the west by Virton, the capital of the eponymous arrondissement. Politically, it is a member Walloon Region, linguistically, however, it does not lie in the territory of the Walloon French, but already in the field of French Lorraine.

History

Mussy- la -Ville was first mentioned in 1096 as Muzeyum, Musson in 1202 as Messons. The small districts were first mention: Signeulx as sine ( 1173 ), Gennevaux and Willancourt as Gennevaus and Villoncourt ( 1234) and Baranzy as Barenzy ( 1396 ).

The territory belonged to the annexation by France (1 October 1795), the medieval German Reich (county or Duchy of Luxembourg), then to the newly formed Department of French Forêts. After the Congress of Vienna it was in 1815 awarded the newly established Kingdom of the United Netherlands. Since the Belgian Revolution in 1830 the municipality belongs to the Kingdom of Belgium.

Personalities

Étienne Lenoir (1822-1900), inventor (80 patents) and businessman, was born in Mussy- la -Ville.
