Mustvee

Mustvee ( German Chorna; Russian Чёрный ) is a city in northeastern Estonia.

Location

Mustvee located in the northeast of the county Jõgeva on the northwest shore of Lake Peipsi.

History

The name Mustvee (translated black water) is as Mustut occupied since 1493. Before the permanent occupation of the site passed some fishermen's huts at its present location. Since 1554 the estate Moustet is mentioned. Only with the arrival of the Old Believers from Russia built in the 18th century, the present location. 1869 Mustvee was an independent municipality. Since 1921, it bore the title of a large village ( alevik ). In 1938 she received the city rights.

During World War II the city was destroyed more than 70 percent. After that, in many places houses were built in the style of Soviet design, which today dominate the skyline in many places. Attractions
