Mušutište

Mushtisht ( Albanian: Mushtishti, Mushtishtë, Mushtishta; Serbian Мушултиште / Муштишт / Mušultište / Muštišt ) is a village in the south west of Kosovo, situated a few kilometers south-east of Suhareka and northeast of Prizren. It is located in the eastern part of the plain Metohija ( Alb. Dukagjin ), and at the foot of the northern slopes of the great Šar Planina mountain range. It is part of the greater community Suhareka and has about 6000 inhabitants.

History

During the Kosovo war in 1999, the village was largely destroyed. Even the Serbian Orthodox monastery Bogorodica Odigitija from the year 1315, which stood above the village, was destroyed in 1999 by Albanian extremists by explosives. Before the war, lived about 5,500 Albanians and 1,200 Serbs in the village. By flight, expulsion or emigration, the proportion of Serbs is almost equal to zero. In 2000 there were 5642 inhabitants.

Mushtisht since March 2001, a sister city of Troisdorf.
