Muthuswami Dikshitar

Muthuswami Dikshitar ( born March 24, 1775October 21, 1835 ) was a South Indian poet and composer.

Dikshitar is one of the musical trinity of Carnatic music. His compositions, of which about 500 are known to impress with their contemplative character and craftsmanship of the application of Ragaformen in Veena style, which is rich in musical ornaments ( Gamakas ). Muthuswami Dikshitar is also known by his stage name Guruguha. His compositions are widely in classical music sung and played Carnatic music.

In contrast to the other two masters of the musical Trinity, Tyagaraja (1767-1847), Syama Sastri and (1762-1827), Dikshitar not wrote in Telugu, but mainly in Sanskrit. Some of his Kritis ( a form of kart nati between song ) are written in Maipravalam, an art mixed language of Sanskrit and Malayalam.
