Mutrux

Mutrux is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Mutrux is located at 748 m above sea level. Level, 13 km north-east of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village extends to a clearing island on the eastern slope of Mont Aubert, in a scenic location around 300 m above the lake level of Lake Neuchâtel.

Population

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1358 under the name Mustrueu; 1867 appeared the spelling Mutru. The place name comes from the patois expression mutru ( Church), which is derived from the Latin monasterium (monastery). Mutrux belonged since the 14th century to the reign Grandson. After 1476 Grandson was a bailiff under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.
