Muuga Harbour

Muuga is the largest and deepest port trade of Estonia.

The Port of Muuga administratively belongs to the city Maardu in Harju County. It is 17 km from Tallinn to the south of the Bay of Muuga (Estonian Muuga Laht ) the Gulf of Finland. The bay is about 20 m deep.

The Port of Muuga was put into operation in 1986 and has since been modernized several times. A large portion is included as a free port. The area of the port is 451 acres, 752 acres of his local waters. He is free of ice with 18 m of the deepest commercial port of Estonia and the whole year. He has a very good connection to the Estonian railway and road network. Tallinn airport is about 15 km away.

Most of the Estonian maritime trade is handled through the Port of Muuga. It plays a large role in oil transportation, container shipping, the timber trade and the transport of coal and steel. 90 % of Estonian transit trade is carried on Muuga.

Founded in 1996, is owned by the Tallinn harbor AG (Estonian Tallinna Sadam AS ), which is 100 % in the hands of the Estonian state.
