Muut

Muut was the personification of death in the culture of the Cahuilla, a Native American tribe living on the southern border of California to Mexico. He was represented as owl shape. Since death is viewed as belonging to something natural and to life in this culture, he was not a fearsome figure, but rather a mediator.
