The Colombo Express class is a class of container ships of the Hamburg shipping company Hapag -Lloyd.

General data

The eight ships of the class were obtained from 2004 to 2008 in the shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries ( HHI), Ulsan ( South Korea ) built. The units have three-quarters aft arranged superstructures and a container capacity of 8749 TEU.

The ships of the Colombo Express class sail under the German flag with a home port of Hamburg and are used on a 56 -day service between Europe and Asia, where the ports of Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore, Southampton, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Port sound, Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai again be started.

The ship is German from the DAL equipment leasing company ( AGV leasing), Wiesbaden leased.

The type of ship Colombo Express was laid on 1 November 2004 at Kiel, the launching was followed on 14 January 2005 and the delivery on 30 March 2005. It was after two months of its completion the largest container ship in the world. In July 2005, the MSC Pamela of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC ), Geneva ( Switzerland ) triggered which has a total container capacity of 9,200 TEU, the Colombo Express from.

Specifications

The ships are classified by Germanischer Lloyd. The hull has the classification: 100 A5 E with freeboard 5,639 m Container Ship, IW NAV -OC RSD ERS BWM -F SOLAS II-2, Reg.19 C2P67, Environmental Passport, the machinery has the classification: MC AUT RCP 730/30.

The units are 335.47 meters above everything long, 42.80 meters wide over all, 60.50 meters high and have a maximum draft of 14.60 meters. The load capacity is 104,400 tons, the total container capacity of 8749 TEU. For reefer container 730 connections are available.

The main engine of the type MAN B & W 12 K with a total output of 68,640 kW ( 93,500 hp) allows 98 ME a speed of 25 knots ( 46.3 km / h ). The diesel engine was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries under license. The engine type called "ME" represents a kind of precursor to a common-rail diesel engine, because the individual cylinders are not supplied by a common fuel high-pressure line (common rail), but conventionally, each a separate fuel pump, but over are driven and controlled a common hydraulic system.

Fleet expansion Colombo Express class with Hapag -Lloyd

From 2005 to 2010, by Hyundai Heavy Industries fourteen container ships for Hapag -Lloyd AG has been built, of which eight belong to the Colombo Express class. The other six ships belonging to the Prague- Express Class ( three ships ) and the Vienna Express Class ( three ships). The classes differ with respect to the engine and slightly in relation to the carrying capacity.

In the years 2010 and 2011, six more units of this type should be added. As part of a new contract in December 2010 for four container ships ( New Post- Panamax - type ), each with 13,200 TEUs at the Hyundai Heavy Industries, the six outstanding works have been converted into orders for container ships, each with 13,200 TEUs. These ten ships to be delivered from 2012 to 2013.
