The Discovery is a cruise ship that was built in 1970/71 from the Rhein steel Nordseewerken in Emden as Iceland Venture for Norwegian Cruise Ships.

Between 1972 and 1999 she went for P & O Princess Cruises Princess as Iceland and served at that time next to its sister ship Pacific Princess as an alternative venue for the American television series The Love Boat.

History

The construction of the ship was given to the late 1960s, along with its sister ship Sea Venture from the company Norwegian Cruise Ships in the North Sea works in order. The launch of the Iceland venture took place on March 6, 1971 and the baptism by Ruth Brandt followed on 14 December 1971. Thereafter, the finished ship was handed over to the client and used from 1972 on cruises between the U.S. and Bermuda.

In April 1975, the ship was sold along with her ​​sister ship Sea Venture to P & O Princess Cruises. The couple was renamed Pacific Princess Princess and Iceland. The Iceland Princess was sold in 1999 at the Hyundai Merchant Marine Company and renamed Hyundai Pungak. It was used in the subsequent period to transport South Korean pilgrims. In 2001, a renewed sales to Fiducia Shipping and renamed in Platinum. In late 2001, the Discovery Cruises owner of the ship and the following year the name was changed to Discovery.
