The Irene SL is an oil tanker shipping company Enesel SA from Athens and travels under the Greek flag.

History

The ship was built in 2004 under the hull number S203 at the shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. The keel laying of the double hull ship took place on 19 July 2004 on May 1, the launching. It was completed on 11 October 2004.

Abduction

On February 9, 2011, the tanker was east on the road from Kuwait to the United States with a cargo of 270,000 tons of crude oil worth about 200 million U.S. dollars and 25 crew members, seven Greeks, one Georgian and 17 Filipinos on board 350 nautical miles hijacked by Somali pirates from Muscat.

The pirates sacked the ship on the 8th of April 2011 from their violence. The shipping company refused to provide any indication as to whether a ransom was paid. The ship continued its journey to the port of Durban in South Africa continues. A pirate from Lebed, a village on the coast of the Indian Ocean near Hobyo was compared with Thomson Reuters on the phone that the pirates had received 13.5 million U.S. dollars in ransom for the ship.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo Type 6S90MC -C Mk5. The motor having a power of 29348 kW applied to a propeller.

The vessel has 15 cargo tanks with a total capacity of 339 052 m³. The tanks can be three manifolds and unloaded. For this purpose there are three pumps with a capacity of 15,000 t / hr. available.
