The ship was built in 1995 under the hull number 636 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg and put into service in April of P & O Cruises. Was christened the ship of Queen Elizabeth II in Southampton.

In December 2012, it was among the passengers to a norovirus illness, of the approximately 400 passengers were affected.
