The Tustumena is an ocean-going ferries of the Alaska Marine Highway System. The ship was in 1963 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, built and overhauled in San Francisco in 1969 and extended. Another time the ship was rebuilt in 1991.

As the only long distance ferry in the southern central Alaska and the Aleutian Islands they reversed substantially between Kodiak, Seldovia, Port Lions and Homer. By this route the ship deviates only if it operated eight times a year during the summer, the Aleutian Island chain with the ports of Akutan, Chignik, Cold Bay, False Pass, King Cove, Sand Point and Unalaska / Dutch Harbor.

The big black building at the rear of the ship is a vehicle lift that is used in all ports where vehicles can not drive over a ramp to the ship.
