My Love (2006 film)

My love is a Russian animated short by Alexander Petrov from the year 2006. It is based on the story История любовная of Ivan Shmelev.

Action

The 15- year-old Anton has to learn for exams. When he reads Anton Chekhov by love, he discovers the love for yourself. Innocent he loves the maid of the family, Pasha, but his ideal sees the black-haired, bespectacled always ten years older neighbor Serafina, whom he revered as a " goddess ". One day he wrote a poetic letter Serafina and they arrange to meet at night in the garden. The woman kisses Anton, but differs then from him. Pasha should turn on the instructions of her aunt 's servant Stepan marry, even if she feels bound to Anton. Lets me yet with a Stepan, as she sees Anton kisses the neighbor. The love has always considered only as ideational construct of worship. When he therefore caught Pasha and Stepan together in the barn, he insulted both as perverts. Pasha says away from him and called the neighbor as a whore.

In one night, the house of a cattle keeper goes up in flames as a result of a relationship dispute. As Stepan wants the next day to catch the runaway from the barn bull, he is attacked and killed by the bull. Pasha has a breakdown. Anton receives a letter from Serafina, in which they agreed to meet with him in the church. Both go out into nature to a lake, where Serafina begins to take off Anton. He wants to finally see Serafina's eyes and she takes off her glasses - her face is completely disfigured and Anton is appalled. He falls into a state of shock from which he recovered only slowly. When he recovered, he learns that Pasha has gone into a monastery, and he now mourns his first, purest love.

Production

My love was like all movies Petrov as an oil - on-glass animation realized. Work on the film took three years to complete. My love experienced on 27 August 2006 at the Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival premiered.

Awards

My Love won the 2006 FIPRESCI Prize of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film. On the Filmfest Dresden My Love in 2007 was awarded the main prize for best animated film. He also received in the same year the top prize for Best Short Film at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

My Love was nominated in 2008 for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ", but could not prevail against Peter and the Wolf himself.
