Myaundzha

Mjaundscha (Russian Мяунджа ) is an urban-type settlement in Magadan Oblast (Russia) with 1663 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The place is good 430 km in a straight line north-northwest of Magadan Oblastverwaltungszentrums in Kolymagebirge on the right bank of the eponymous river Mjaundscha in the system of the left Kolyma river source Ajan - Jurjach.

Mjaundscha belongs to Rajon Sussumanski and is located just 60 km north- west of the administrative center Sussuman. The settlement is the seat of the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Mjaundscha to which also belongs the 7 km south west settlement Kedrowy.

History

The settlement was founded in 1950 in connection with the construction of the thermal power plant Arkagalinskaja GRES, the first block was taken with a capacity of 25 MW 1955. Since 1957 Mjaundscha has the status of an urban-type settlement.

Economy and Transport

Ortbildendes company is the thermal power plant Arkagalinskaja GRES with a capacity of 224 MW today, which is operated by Magadanenergo and is named after the Kolyma hydroelectric power plant most important electric energy supplier to the Oblast.

A few kilometers west of the settlement, between Mjaundscha and Kedrowy, leads past the Kolyma highway R504 that connects Magadan with Nizhny Bestjach at Yakutsk (previously M56, number until 2017 alternatively in use). From Mjaundscha in a southeasterly direction, first the river Mjaundscha up and over a 1200m high pass crosses an alternate route to Sussuman, which is shorter but unpaved.
