History

MyBB was founded in 2002 by the lead developer Chris Boulton after the cleavage of the XMB development team. DevBB, an offshoot of the XMB code base was created as a temporary solution while the new MyBB development team drafted the first versions of MyBB.

MyBB RC1 was released on 10 December 2003 and was the first public version of the software.

After three years of additional development time and numerous other pre-release versions MyBB 1:00 was published on 9 December 2005. The version also marked the beginning of 1.0x-/1.1.x-Serie. On 9 March 2006 MyBB 1.1.0 was released. The latest version of MyBB 1.0/1.1 series is 1.1.8 was what was released as a security update on 29 August 2006.

On September 2, 2006 MyBB 1.2 was released. It contained a thoroughly revised and rewritten code base and over 40 new features. The final version of the 1.2 series was MyBB 1.2.14 and was released as a security and maintenance update on 17 July 2008. Support for the 1.2 branch ended on 1 June 2009, hiring a security update was announced on December 31, 2009.

2 August 2008 MyBB 1.4 was released to the public after a long beta test phase. Were presented over 70 features and changes, including a completely revised and redesigned Administration Center and a new calendar system. As with earlier versions of MyBB 1.4 were released under their own proprietary license, new versions were re-licensed on 12 October 2008 under the GPLv3, so it was a free and open source software. MyBB 1.4.2 was then used as the first version of MyBB released under the GPL.

Two years after MyBB 1.4 was released MyBB 1.6.

MyBB had since the founding of a closed internal development, but after switching to an open source license, preparations were made to make the MyBB Development public. On 19 August 2009 the development of MyBB for the public was opened, allowing users to both the development as well as on the official bug tracker had access via Subversion read-only access.
