Myclimate - The Climate Protection Partnership is an ETH spin-off and a non-profit foundation under Swiss law, which was founded in 2002. The aim of the foundation is to offer a solution for greener choices. myclimate aims to promote climate change over the three levels of prevention, reduction and compensation.

Objectives

The Foundation works to ensure that the CO2 externality gets a price in a market economy, can therefore be integrated market economy. The idea is that greenhouse gas emissions, for example, during production or transport to compensate for climate change projects, ie at a different location to reduce. Since it does not matter where finally the CO2 is reduced, the projects are usually implemented in southern countries where you can reach more climate protection with the same money.

Individuals, government agencies or firms can voluntarily purchase by the foundation air tickets and the proceeds will be forwarded to such environmental projects. The Swiss Federal Environment Agency UVEK, Liechtenstein, as well as the WWF Climate Group compensate myclimate with the foundation.

Myclimate focused on life cycle analysis and the club Climatop founded together with the ecology center Langenbruck, which characterizes climate- positive products. The initiative hopes to use more competition from producers regarding the manufacture better products. The label is, inter alia, the largest retailer in Switzerland, Migros, in use.

Myclimate supports climate protection projects according to different standards. For all equally high requirements apply. The climate protection projects myclimate based on internationally accepted criteria, derived from the Kyoto Protocol. The projects are in accordance with the Clean Development Mechanism ( CDM) or - implemented as myclimate VER projects - in line with its procedures, criteria and methods.

Myclimate supports only projects that reduce emissions directly. These include the categories of " renewable energy", "energy efficiency" and " reduction of methane emissions in combination with energy use ."

The emission reductions from the myclimate projects are measured during the life of the project and checked by independent bodies.

For schools and apprentices, or employees of companies developed myclimate exhibitions, competitions, school books or excursions. The myclimate game for kids, triCO2lor was honored in 2008 by the UNESCO.

Companies will be accompanied internally to reduce the consumption of resources and more sustainably; and be honored at the entry into the appropriate program. As an example, applies here, the industry-specific service package for the printing industry.

Partners and patronage

The original idea for myclimate comes from former students of the ETH Zurich. myclimate is scientifically supported by various institutes of the ETH. Among the partners of the Foundation include the Center for Sustainability at ETH Zurich and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, and the economy. In patronage are, for example, the Swiss Environment Minister Doris Leuthard or former member of the German Bundestag Prof. Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker.

Controversy

• In 2011, the Swiss Commission for Fairness forbade the foundation various advertising claims to resources and potential of different projects as factually incorrect.

• In the same year it was announced that the Foundation holds up large amounts of resources, without having to invest in climate protection projects.

• Critics call the appropriate initiatives as modern indulgences, because the certificates markets as well as the projects are burdened with uncertainties. According to myclimate the development of the gold standard was for this reason, together with the WWF promoted.

External Evaluation

The climate division of the American Tufts University has studied in one study 13 organizations that offer compensation for CO2 emissions. Criteria were transparency, accuracy of the emission calculations, the price of compensation and administrative costs. myclimate was there a party of four who reached the mark very well.
