Mycolic acid

Mycolic acids are long-chain branched fatty acids found in cell walls of mycobacteria, rhodococci, Nocardia and Corynebacteria. They are part of the acid-fast cell wall. Through the incorporation of mycolic acids, the cells are highly hydrophobic.

Mycolic acids are the longest naturally occurring fatty acids. You are bound by arabinogalactan to the murein.
