Myeloblast

Myeloblasts are progenitor cells of a given population of white blood cells (leukocytes). They are the first morphologically identifiable cell engraftment ( granulopoiesis ) in the bone marrow.

They are the only cells within the white row without granulation. The nucleus is round to oval, chromatin is reticulated and there are clear and distinct nucleoli can be seen. The cytoplasm in the Pappenheim staining intensely blue or purple represents the Golgi apparatus is visible in the form of a perinuclear radiolucent zone. In contrast to the proerythroblasts which myeloblasts have no cytoplasmic.
