Mykola Azarov

Mykola Azarov Janowytsch (born Pahlo, Ukrainian Микола Янович Азаров, Russian Николай Янович Азаров; born December 17, 1947 in Kaluga, Soviet Union) was a Ukrainian politician. He was a member of the Party of Regions. It was March 11, 2010 to January 28, 2014 Prime Minister of Ukraine. Azarov was considered a close confidant of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. Since February 23, 2014 Azarov Believed to be in Russia. On March 29, he was expelled from the Party of Regions.

Life

Mykola Azarov was born Nikolai Pahlo in the central Russian city of Kaluga. Later he took over from his wife Lyudmila Nikolaevna Asarowa the family name. The father of Mykola Azarov, Jaan Pahlo (* 1924), is of Estonian origin. His mother, Ekaterina Pavlovna Kwasnikowa (* 1927) is Russian.

Azarov studied geology and geophysics at the Lomonosov University in Moscow in 1971 and obtained a university degree. He then worked as head of department and chief engineer in a coal mine in Tula ( Kombinat Tulaugol ) and from 1976 in the research in a Mining Institute in Moscow. In 1984 he moved to the Ukraine, where he worked as Deputy Director and later as Director of Geology and Mining Institute in Donetsk.

1986 became Azarov PhD in geology and mineralogy, and in 1991 the title of professor. In 1997 he became a member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. In the early 1990s began Azarov his political career. From 1993 he was a leading member of the Labour Party ( Partija Prazi ), which later in the Party of Regional Revival ( Partija Regionalnoho Widrodschennja ) and 2001 in the Party of Regions ( Partija Rehioniw ) renamed. 1994 Azarov was elected to the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament. From 4 August 2006 to December 18, 2007 Azarov was again first Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister in the second Yanukovych government.

After the election victory of Yanukovych in the presidential elections in February 2010 Azarov was again chairman of the Party of Regions. On March 11, 2010 Azarov was elected Ukrainian Prime Minister. He faces a coalition led by the Party of Regions, which was formed after deselection of Prime Minister Tymoshenko by Parliament. In 2011 he was admitted to the Equestrian Order of the Holy Orthodox grave in Jerusalem.

Beginning in December 2012, five weeks after the election, Azarov initially resigned as Prime Minister. According to the Constitution, this also had the resignation of the entire cabinet consequence. Azarov justified his resignation by saying that he had won in the parliamentary elections for the Party of Regions a parliamentary mandate. Even more retired cabinet members had won mandates. After his resignation to Azarov went briefly to Vienna. In this context, it was claimed in various media, he had an Austrian passport. Azarov described this statement as a " lie." On 6 March 2014, the Council of the European Union in Brussels has imposed by Regulation 208/2014 restrictive measures against Mykola Azarov. This was justified by the prosecuting Azarov for the investigation of criminal offenses in connection with the embezzlement of public funds of Ukraine and with the accusation of illegal transfer of funds abroad. His son Oleksii Mykolajowitsch Azarov covered by these measures.

On March 29, 2014, the Party of Regions decided the exclusion of Mykola Azarov at a party congress.
