Mykolas Biržiška

Mykolas Biržiška ( born August 24, 1882 in Viekšniai, Šiauliai district, now Rajon Mažeikiai; † August 24, 1962 in Los Angeles ) was a Lithuanian lawyer, literary historian and politician.

Life

From 1895 to 1902 he taught at the high school Šiauliai. From 1901 he studied at the Faculty of Law at the University of Moscow. In 1905 he became a member of Lietuvos socialdemokratų partija. From 1907 he worked as a law clerk Tadas Vrublevskis and then as a lawyer in the Vilniaus bankas zemes. He was a staff member and editor in the Lithuanian press.

From 1939 to 1944 he was a professor and rector of the Vilniaus universitetas. As of June 1944, he lived in Germany. From 1946 to 1949 he taught at the Baltic University in Hamburg and Pinneberg. From 1949 he lived in the United States.
