Mymensingh District

Mymensingh ( Bengali: ময়মনসিংহ জেলা, Maẏamanasiṃh Jela, English: Mymensingh district ) is an administrative district in Bangladesh, located in the extreme north of the Dhaka Division. The district capital is the same Mymensingh, which was originally known as Nasirabad.

The 4363 km ² large administrative unit is bordered on the north by the Garo hills of the Indian state of Meghalaya, on the south by Gazipur district, on the east by the districts Netrokona and Kishorganj and to the west by the administrative districts of Sherpur, Jamalpur and Tangail.

The administrative district Mymensingh was created already in 1787. The original area was, however, divided again into today's six districts Tangail, Jamalpur, Kishorganj, Sherpur, Mymensingh and Netrokona.
