Myotomys

Myotomys sloggetti

Myotomys is a rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ). The genus includes two species. It is closely related to the fins tooth rats ( Otomys ) and is often incorporated in the same genus.

The body length of these animals is around 13 to 16 centimeters, the tail is about 7 inches long. Their fur is gray on the back and belly white in color, the feet are light brown. Your body is stocky, the head roundish.

These animals live in southern Africa, in South Africa and Lesotho. Their habitat is rocky regions, they occur up to over 2600 meters in altitude regions. Use burrows or rock crevices for shelter and feed on plants.

There are two types of

  • Myotomys sloggetti lives in eastern South Africa and Lesotho.
  • Myotomys unisulcatus inhabited the Karoo region in western South Africa.

Both species are not endangered according to IUCN.
