Myqerem Tafaj

Myqerem Tafaj ( born November 14, 1957 in Dibra ) is an Albanian politician (PD). Between 2009 and 2013 he was Minister of Education in the government of Sali Berisha. On April 4, 2013 he also took over the post of deputy prime minister, which he held until September 15, 2013.

Life and career

In the late 1970s he moved to Tirana, where he began the study of zoology at the Agricultural University of Tirana and in 1988 received his doctorate. In 1990 he was awarded a one-year scholarship by the German Foundation for International Development ( DSE), which gave him the opportunity to expand his research in Germany. Between 1992 and 1995 he completed Myqerem Tafaj his second doctorate at the University of Hohenheim. In 1996 he returned to Albania and was director of the Ministry of Education. From March 1997 to July 1997 he was Minister of Education and Science of Albania's transitional government. 1999 Tafaj was awarded a research fellowship from the Alexander -von- Humboldt Foundation and worked as a visiting professor at the University of Hohenheim.

In 2005 he returned to Albania and worked as a professor at the Agricultural University of Tirana and consultant on education to the Prime Minister Sali Berisha. In 2009 Tafaj was re-appointed Minister of Education. 2013 was forced to resign after the election defeat on June 23, and the Socialist Party of Albania took over with Edi Rama as prime minister the affairs of the Berisha government.
