Myristicin is a phenylpropanoid and an essential component in the essential oil of nutmeg. It belongs to the monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
Occurrence
Myristicin is considered the hallucinogenic active ingredient in the essential oil of some spice plants.
It is included in the nutmeg ( Myristica fragrans ), in dill ( Anethum graveolens ), in lovage ( Levisticum officinale), parsnips ( Pastinaca sp. ) And parsley (Petroselinum crispum ). In the essential oil of Australian Rötegewächsgattung Zieria the share is up to 23.4%.
Structurally related are the safrole and apiol.
