Myrnyi

Myrnyj (Ukrainian Мирний; Russian Мирный / Mirny ) is an urban-type settlement in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in southern Ukraine with 4200 inhabitants ( 2011).

History

The settlement was founded in 1961 in connection with the application of a channel from the Black Sea to the neighboring Donuzlav Lake and the construction of a military airfield has since 1977 the status of an urban-type settlement and a garrison with the seaport Nowooserne, the naval base and home port of ships of the Ukrainian Marine is.

Geography

Myrnyj is in the northwest of the Crimea peninsula between the shores of the Black Sea in the southeast and the 47- km ² Donuzlav Lake in the northeast and one to the City Council administrative community of the town lying 30 km southeast Evpatoria.
