Myron Walden

Myron Walden ( born October 18, 1973 in Miami) is an American jazz musician ( alto and tenor saxophone).

Life and work

Myron Walden spent his youth in New York's Harlem. Influenced by the music of Charlie Parker began playing alto saxophone, attended the LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and the Harlem School of the Arts; his mentors were, inter alia, Yusef Lateef and Donald Byrd. In 1993 he won the Charlie Parker Competition at Lincoln Center; it was followed by appearances with Wynton Marsalis, Nat Adderley and Lou Donaldson. In 1996 his debut album Hypnosis, followed by Like a Flower Seeking the Sun (1999). Walden published 2009 album Momentum (Demi Sound), which he recorded with his band of the same name, which is based on the 1960 Miles Davis Quintet and Eden Ladin, bassist Yasushi Nakamura and drummer Mark Whitfield playing in trumpeter Darren Barrett, pianist Jr.. Walden also participated in recordings of Omer Avital, Eric Revis and Josh Roseman ( Treats for the Nightwalker, 2003).
