Myrtos (Greek Μύρτος ( m. sg. ) ) Is a Greek village on the south coast of Crete, 15 km west of Ierapetra in Lasithi prefecture Regional. It is located about 50 km from Agios Nikolaos on the road to Viannos. Myrtos has 441 inhabitants ( 2011 census ) and is part of the municipality of Ierapetra ( Δήμος Ιεράπετρας, Dimos IERAPETRAS ).

In Myrtos has been able to develop some tourism since the late 80s as opposed to the purely agrarian -oriented neighboring villages, who now represents the main source of income of the small community. The village lies in a climatic zone that is considered the warmest of Crete (in the vicinity of bananas are grown outside of greenhouses ).

Just before the entrance are the Minoan ruins of Pyrgos. Another archaeological, Furnu Korfi, the remains of an early minoïan villa with a total of 90 rooms is located about 2.5 km further (towards Ierapetra ). In the Museum of Myrtos, is next found objects such as pottery from different eras, a fairly vivid, reconstructed model of the settlement to see how they might have once looked.

A special feature of the rather unspectacular beach of the resort is the opportunity to rent surf - and sailing equipment, since the wind conditions are quite uniformly low in the bay. Myrtos is also often taken as the starting point for hiking in the north of the village Dikti mountains.
