Myshall

Myshall ( Mishal Irish ) is a town in County Carlow in the Irish province of Leinster.

History

In the center of Myshall located at Church Road, surrounded by a cemetery, the ruins of a pre-Romanesque church, which is supposed to be the successor building a foundation of St. Finnian from the 6th century. Probably by the troops of Cromwell in retaking of Ireland (1649-1653) destroyed church in the west wall, a narrow, domed granite portal. In the cemetery is a large Bullaun with two cavities at the end.

Attractions

  • South of the church is Tobar Bhride, the fountain of Saint Brigid, one of 15 saints sources in the county.
  • Built on the model of the Cathedral of Salisbury Adelaide Memorial Church of Christ the Redeemer has remarkable stained glass.

Personalities

Finnian of Clonard to have been born in Myshall in 470 AD. He is one of the most important saints of the church Iroschottischen and died 549 AD in Clonard, where he is also buried.
