Properties
N-methylformamide is a colorless, toxic liquid. Is an amide of formic acid and has similar properties, such as formamide, the two substances are teratogenic.
Use
N-methylformamide is used as the polar solvent ( for example, the Karl -Fischer method of water determination). Furthermore it is used as intermediate in the preparation of insecticides. N-methylformamide shows certain antitumor effects, and is therefore the subject of current medical research.
