Na Kae District

Amphoe Na Kae ( Thai อำเภอ นาแก ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) of Nakhon Phanom. The Nakhon Phanom Province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, the Isaan. It is located at the extreme north-eastern border of Thailand on the border with Laos on the banks of the Mekong.

Etymology

The name Na Kae means ( Combretum quadrangulare ), which often grow in marshy areas of the field Kae - trees.

Geography

Neighboring districts of the county Na Kae (from north clockwise): the Amphoe Wang Yang, Pla Pak, Renu Nakhon and That Phanom of Nakhon Phanom, Amphoe Dong Luang in the province of Mukdahan and Amphoe Tao Ngoi and Khok Si Suphan in the province Sakon Nakhon.

History

The history of the district dates back to Mueang Kabin ( เมือง กบิล ), which had been abandoned, however, after the capture by the enemy army. It was later repopulated by settlers from Laos.

In 1917 the district of Nong Sun ( หนอง สูง ) was renamed in Na Kae.

Management

Amphoe Na Kae is divided into twelve communities ( tambon), which further into 140 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

There are two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Na Kae ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล นาแก ) consists of parts of the tambon Na Kae,
  • Phra Song ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล พระ ซอง ) consists of the whole Tambon Phra song.

There are also eleven " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.

Note: The missing geocodes are among the tambon which now belong to Amphoe Wang Yang.
