Nabadwip ( Bengali: নবদ্বীপ, Nabadbīp ) is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal, about 100 kilometers north of Kolkata. It is located in the district of Nadia in the Hooghly and has about 125,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

In the late 12th century during the reign of the Sena dynasty of Bengal the capital of Gaur was moved to Nabadwip. The Sena king Lakshmansena was trounced in Nabadwip in the year 1201/1202 by the Muslim conquerors Mohammed Bakhtiyar Khilji to what marks the beginning of the invasion of Islam in Bengal.

Until the 16th century, the city remained an important center of culture, education and religion. Today there are numerous temples in the city. The mystic Chaitanya was born in Nabadwip and even today the city is a pilgrimage destination for many Krishna followers.

On the opposite bank of the Hooghly in Mayapur is the headquarter of ISKCON movement.
