History

The founding of Nabisco dates back to the 1890s, a decade in which merged in bakery operations on a large scale. At the beginning of the decade, united regional bakeries in the United States. The Chicago 's American Biscuit and Manufacturing Company was created from the merger of 40 bakeries in the Midwest, the East founded seven bakeries, the New York Biscuit Company and other companies joined together to form United States Baking Company. These three companies with its 114 bakeries merged in 1898 to the National Biscuit Company, headquartered in New York City.

The abbreviation used the Nabisco National Biscuit Company for the first time in 1901 as a brand name for a biscuit variety. The red triangular corporate logo was designed in 1952. The company name was changed in 1972 to Nabisco. Until then, the food manufacturer has often been called NBC referred to. This abbreviation has no relation to the NBC television network and the antenna -like symbol in the logo seems to be a coincidence.

N.B.C. took over in 1928, the Shredded Wheat Company (maker of Triscuit and Shredded Wheat cereal products ) and Christie, Brown & Company ( Toronto ), and three years later, the FH Bennett Company ( producer of Milk -Bone dog biscuits ). 1981 Nabisco merged with Standard Brands (maker of Planters nuts) and acquired the confectionery manufacturer Lifesavers.

1985 Nabisco was acquired by Reynolds American Inc., and went in 2000 in the possession of Philip Morris Companies Inc.. This acquisition was approved by the Federal Trade Commission under the condition to sell five product areas (powder for gelatin desserts, pudding - finished products, baking -free desserts, peppermint candies and baking soda). The remaining product areas Nabiscos were by 2007 also to Philip Morris owned Kraft Foods company, which operates now as Mondelez International, affiliated as a subsidiary.
