Nabothian cyst

The ovules Nabothi (Latin ovules " small eggs, egg-shaped structure " ) are small yellow- whitish retention cysts in the vaginal portion of the cervix. They were from Leipzig doctor Martin Naboth (* 1675 in Calau (Brandenburg), † 1721 in Leipzig) mistaken for ova and subsequently named after him. The retention cysts caused by blockage of mucus gland excretory ducts of the uterine lining. This blocking is caused by the overgrowth of the mucous glands of the squamous epithelium of the vagina, so that there is a stagnation of the glandular secretion (retention ) in the gland and thus the formation of cysts.

The ovules Nabothi but have no clinical significance. With the help of colposcopy can visualize them in the area of the external os.
