Nadir Afonso

Nadir Afonso ( born December 4, 1920 in Chaves, † December 11, 2013 in Cascais ) was a Portuguese painter. Originally an architect, he worked with Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer. He later studied painting in Paris and became a pioneer of kinetic art.

His theoretical work on geometrically based aesthetics he published in several books. Afonso proceeded from the thesis that art is purely objective and determined by laws that do not treat them as an act of the imagination, but as an observation, perception and change in shape.

His works can be found worldwide in numerous museums, including his most famous work, the serial cities in which he represents places from around the world.
