Nagar (princely state)

Nagar ( Urdu: نگر ) was a mountain kingdom in the northern part of Pakistan autonomous region of Gilgit -Baltistan ( Northern Areas to August 2009 ), which existed until 1974. The state bordered on the south and west by the Gilgit Agency and the former mountain kingdom of Hunza in the north and east. The capital of the empire was the city of Nagar Nagar. Today, the area of Nagar is divided into three districts, in the so-called Hunza Nagar districts. The old areas of the kingdoms Nagar, Gilgit and Baltistan India reclaims for itself as a part of his land as a territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

History

Nagar was an autonomous kingdom, which was closely associated with the neighboring kingdom of Hunza. In the British period of the Raj, the British took control of the state Nagar 1889 to 1892. , The British did not rule directly but accepted the autonomy of Nagar and Hunza, and set up a vassal of Kashmir. The ruler of Nagar had to dissipate an annual tribute to Kashmir Durbar until the year 1947. Geography
