Nagytevel

Nagytevel ( German Deutschtewel ) is a municipality in the small area Papa, situated in the County of Veszprém in western Hungary. The population is approximately 550 ( as of 2012), the area of ​​14.41 km ².

Location

It lies at the northern edge of the Bakony. In the surroundings villages Adásztevel and Homokbödöge lie. The town Papa is 8 km away.

History

Naygtevel was first documented in 1422. In the Middle Ages the inhabitants of serfs who fled in the 16th century before the Turkish invasion were. The Turks occupied the settlement in 1526. After they had left the place again, settled there Silesian, Frankish, Moravian and Croatian settlers. In the 18th century there was a flourishing weaving industry. The Roman Catholic church was built in the years 1770-1775 by the Cistercian Order of the Abbey of Zirc. Today, about 100 people of German descent living in Nagytevel. The majority of the population is Roman Catholic.

Infrastructure

There is a post office, kindergarten, library, mayor's office, a Roman Catholic church and the sports club Nagyteveli Sportegyesület whose football team plays in the 3rd Liga Hungary on site. The mayor of the municipality is currently József Magyar (as of 2013).
