Nahalal

Nahallal (Hebrew נהלל ) is the oldest Israeli moshav. The place is located west of Nazareth and in the Jezreel Valley in 2008 had about 750 inhabitants.

The name Nahalals goes back to a settlement in the territory of the tribe of Zebulun, mentioned in the Old Testament ( including in Joshua 19:15). Although this place was in the same area, but can no longer be accurately located.

At the foundation of today's settlement on September 11, 1921, some members of the first kibbutz Degania were involved who had turned their backs on this settlement.

The planning for this moshav Ovdim was created by architect and urban planner Richard Kauffmann. Frequently Nahallal is seen as the prototype of a moshav par excellence, for in his draft for the principle of this form of settlement ( each wirtschaftet for himself, purchasing and sales are organized as a cooperative ) is realized structurally. To an oval center with Community buildings leads a ring road to the outward - comparable pieces of pie - connect the same size plots of villagers.

The most famous residents Nahalals was Moshe Dayan, whose family in his youth also moved from Kibbutz Degania; Dayan is buried in Nahallal.
