Nahanni National Park Reserve

The Nahanni National Park Reserve (English Nahanni National Park Reserve of Canada, French Réserve de parc national du Canada Nahanni ) is a 30,050 km ² large reserve with a national park appropriate status in the Canadian Northwest Territories. It extends 500 km west of Yellowknife along the South Nahanni River and was expanded in 2009 from the original 4765 km ² to its present size, although the legal status of the land between the Canadian federal government and the organized as Dehcho First Nations Indians by the people of the Dene and the Métis are not yet fully understood. For this reason, the Nahanni National Park Reserve is not formally designated as a national park, but bears since 1976 provided for the establishment phase dedication of a National Park Reserve.

The reserve was founded in 1976 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. Due to its remoteness the park is only about 7,000 visitor per year.

In the National Park, the 96 m high are Virginia Falls.
