Nahiyah

Nahiya or Nahia (Arabic ناحية, DMG Nāḥiya ) referred to in the Arab States and the Ottoman Empire a subordinate administrative unit. Such districts included a number of villages and sometimes a smaller city. Several of them formed a province, such as a sanjak in the Ottoman Empire and still in Jordan a governorate ( muhafaza ).
