Some cryptozoologists hold Nahuelito for a member of the plesiosaur, which are considered to be extinct for millions of years.

Also some outlandish theories have been written about the existence of Nahuelito. Thus, the animals should be result of action taken in the 1950 nuclear tests. In an article in the New York Post of 17 February 1960 under the title The Monster Rally Down Argentine Way was alleged Nessie had swum 13,000 km from Scotland to Patagonia.
